My name is Izuma from AZSTOKE.
Our company, AZSTOKE, is working hard every day to get our large-scale field studio SKYSQUARE up and running as soon as possible.
These "materials" are essential for the "Foley recording" carried out at SKYSQUARE.
When it comes to large-scale Foley recording, the equipment required is correspondingly large.
This time, we have acquired some "junk cars" that can be used as Foley parts, so we would like to introduce them to you.
▢For large-scale Foley recording
At SKYSQUARE, we will be using a large 7-ton crane and a large recording pit (planned for construction) to record on a scale several times larger than normal Foley recording.
For more information, please see the related blog.
The material that matches the scale of SKYSQUARE is "scrap cars."
A car's mechanism involves a variety of materials, such as steel and aluminum frames, interior parts, and tires, so this is one of the useful components for recording those sounds.
But there were many difficulties in securing it.
▢Hard to find junk cars
The car we purchased this time was scheduled to be scrapped due to malfunctions of the electrical parts caused by aging, but was purchased by our company.
The problem with the electrical system could be fixed by gathering the necessary parts, but since the car was an old model, the resale price would not be commensurate with the cost of repairs, so it was scheduled to be scrapped.
Due to the current rise in the price of metals, the price of scrapped vehicles is also rising.
Each part is traded at a high price, and even scrapped cars seem to be sold for about the same price as used cars.
Because of the demand, when used cars are scrapped, they are immediately sold to scrapping companies.
So, I managed to find someone in the used car dealership, and although it took some time, I was finally able to get the car.
▢Delivery was even more difficult
What was even more difficult was delivery.
Due to scheduling conflicts, the towing delivery schedule could not be met, so a temporary license plate was issued and the towing company personally drove to SKYSQUARE to deliver the vehicle.
I also accompanied them in another car.
However, since the vehicle had a problem with the electrical system, the engine stalled on the way to SKYSQUARE.
There is nothing wrong with the engine, so there are no problems while driving, but if the engine is stopped even once to refuel, it will not be able to be restarted on its own.
The engine is started by connecting the battery of the rescue vehicle to the battery of your vehicle, a method known as jump starting.
Considering traffic volume, deliveries are carried out during late night hours.
Once we finally arrived at SKYSQUARE, we emptied the gasoline from the tank for safety reasons during recording.
Since there are no equipment yet and it's dark, we work by headlamp.
The battery has also been removed, leaving the vehicle completely non-operational.
After all the work was finished and we were on our way home, we spotted a large deer standing in the road at night!
It was a near collision.
He was walking along the road leisurely and ran away when a car approached.
I have never seen one during the day, are they nocturnal?
Anyway, I was able to finish my late-night work and go home safely without any injuries.
This was how we acquired our first decommissioned car to use as materials for a large-scale Foley recording.
We will be using every part of this vehicle for Foley recording.
We also plan to continue acquiring more parts in the future.
We will continue to conduct research and development to further develop game sound.
We look forward to your continued support of AZSTOKE Co., Ltd.
