[Road of SKYSQUARE-027-] How to build a base ~Logging~🌳

Hello

This is Nakajima from AZSTOKE Co., Ltd.

This is the purpose of this project.

Clear the land to build a base.

To do that, the first step is to cut down trees!!!

I decided on my base with this blog, but to open up

Trees need to be cut, roots removed and the ground leveled.

This requires both complete forestry and civil engineering skills, so I will make full use of the licenses and knowledge I have acquired so far to make it happen!!!

You can't clear land unless you cut down trees first.

We look at the inclination of the tree and change the way we cut it down accordingly. We also show how to cut down trees leaning against power lines.

Please take a look.

1. Felling ā‘ : Felling the roots of large trees of 30 meters or more

The tree to be cut down is a large tree of about 30 meters in size, as shown in the image. It is a fairly straight tree, so it is probably a conifer. I am not sure what kind of tree it is, but in a previous forestry training course, I learned that most straight trees are conifers.

It is characterized by its softness and ease of processing.

First we cut down this tree.

Oh..huge...

30m tall tree

Make sure you decide the direction to knock down and then make the receiving cut.

Please proceed carefully.

This time there are no obstacles in front of us, so we will be able to take them down without using ropes or anything.

Somehow

The first tree was successfully cut down!!!

I was pretty nervous, but it went well. I'll keep cutting down the trees like this.

2. Felling ā‘”: Felling the roots of large trees of 40 meters or more

The next tree to be felled is even larger, around 40 meters high, but it is not as thick and is also straight, so it is likely a conifer. We will cut it down carefully as well.

The challenge of felling a 40m tree

This time, I want to make sure the building falls in the direction I want it to, so I'll move it slowly using the wedge.

If it is 40 meters long, it could become a road if you tilt it in a completely different direction.

It must be avoided and defeated.

Felling with a wedge

The second tree was also successfully cut down!

I got on the first one, but don't worry about it, I'll use a bulldozer to get rid of it later.

We will continue to move forward.

3. Felling ā‘¢: Falling in the opposite direction

The third tree is towed with a rope to change the direction it falls.

In this case the tree is quite bent, so we can see that it is a broadleaf tree and quite dangerous.

There are no branches and the base is rotten... It's dangerous...

It's better to cut down the tree as soon as possible since you don't know when it will fall.

It has fallen onto a road and power lines, making it even more dangerous!!!

This involves towing the tree to change the direction it is felling. This is a technique I learned in a previous forestry course, and I had purchased the necessary equipment.

We will make full use of it.

Towing to change the direction of the fall

Success!!!

It was quite light, and when you look at the base of the tree you can see that it is clearly rotten... dangerous...

The wood is rotten...

4. Felling ā‘£: Next time, cut the tree in the opposite direction

The tree is clearly leaning towards the electric wires... This is what happens when you combine the forces of nature with man-made things...

However, this is a rather nuisance tree, so it looks like we will definitely need to cut it down.

This time we will use the technique of towing and tilting in the opposite direction.

Towing set

Set up the towbar.

To ensure safety, the towing device should be set up in a triangular shape.

We set up the equipment and prepare for felling.

Triangular towing setup ensures safety

The setup is complete.

You can see that it is tilted. Since you are pulling the rope, you should be pulling it in the direction you don't want it to fall over.

There is a moderate amount of force being applied.

Pull the rope

Create an undercut and a backcut to make it easier to fall.

As for the order, it is important to do it in moderation as there is a possibility that they may start to fall over at this stage.

Pull the rope tightly.

Make a receiving hole

Now start pulling with the pulley.

Pull the rope further

Here is a picture of the setup. When you operate the pulley like this, the tree will fall in the direction that it is being turned, not in the direction of the pulley being pulled, so it can be cut down very safely.

This is the moment when I think it was good that I took the forestry training course.

Towing to safety

The angle has changed due to the force of the pulley. I feel pretty safe at this point.

You can see that it is able to avoid the power lines.

The direction of fall is visible

Success!

We succeeded in cutting down the most troublesome tree.

This was also a dangerous tree, so I'm glad we were able to cut it down without any problems.

Felling was a success!!!

5. Felling ⑤: What is the center of gravity of the forked tree?

The fifth one is a fairly large tree that splits into two at the top.

The tree was straight up until halfway through, so I wasn't sure if it was a conifer or not, and it's hard to tell where the center of gravity is with a forked tree, so I decided to tow it as well for safety reasons.

Felling a forked tree

After adjusting the angle of the underside, the underside is complete!

I'm getting used to it.

As expected, there are things you can understand by doing a lot of things.

Cut the receiving hole

Felling success!!! At this point I've cut down everything I wanted to, so I'll call it done for now.

There are a lot of trees piled up from just being cut down, so we will carefully clean them up again at a later date.

The power of the excavator is also important for this.

I was in a state where I thought I should get various licenses lol

6. Summary

This time, five were released.

In the end, we cut down nearly 10 trees, including smaller ones.

In order to carry out this logging, various studies such as chainsaw licenses and forestry training are put to good use.

It was also a time when I strongly felt that it was important to try out different things.

Normally, it would cost a considerable amount of money just to hire a contractor to cut down 10 trees.

Given the size of the space, I feel I need to be able to solve problems on my own as much as possible.

I understand that this is what it means to manage

This requires exploration as a form of study, and I intend to continue studying and taking on new challenges in the future.

Next time, I will have to cut down the roots before I can level the ground, so this is my first time.

I'm going to do some research on YouTube and then try cutting down the roots.

We appreciate your continued support of SKYSQUARE.
